long live freshman year

My last semester with English. I don’t really know how I feel. I love this class; it’s totally awesome and I have fun and relax. But I’m glad I don’t have it anymore. Next semester all I have is engineering courses: math, science, engineering, blah blah blah. It’s going to be tough, but I’ll be fine. I can’t wait to the end of the year though. We have a week and a half left! This first year in college is almost over?! What?!?!? How is that possible? It seems like yesterday when I walked into my room and set up my things. This year could not have gone faster. I loved every bit of it, but I’m definitely ready to come home. I love this place, but I am homesick and “work”sick. I really am tired of all this crap though. I need this year to be over. I’ve been running around so much 24/7. I barely sleep now-a-days. I don’t know; it’s just stressful. I love college, but it definitely has been harder than I expected.

I cant wait till next year! As much as I want to go home, I also am so excited to come back. I am going to go to school and work this summer so it’ll be a struggle. But the main reason why I’m so excited is because of where I’m living next year. Terrace View :] is going to be amazing. My friends are pretty much around me, and I’m living with my best friend. I also am bringing one of my cats next year. He’s going to love it, just because he hates my other cat that lives in the same house as him. I probably will get my car next year too, so that will be a lot nicer. I get to cook too! Yay. I’m just so excited about everything.

Soo I bet everyone is going to talk about this past weekend and/or the big event. But, I guess a lot happened this weekend and these blogs are all about what’s on my mind so, yea. Anyways, this weekend I had to do the Big Event with Hypatia and Galileo. Not that I minded at all because it was for a good cause, but the stuff they made us do. Ugh. That’s all I’ll say about the stuff. As for the people…

So my friends birthday is today (Sunday) and she wanted to celebrate all weekend. I was fine with that seeing as I love her and it turned out to be really fun, but I am exhausted from it all. Friday night was really sad at the candle light vigil for the 32 Hokies that were killed in 07. After that no one really wanted to go out, which was understandable. We just weren’t in the mood. But anyways, that night I stayed up pretty late talking to the boyfriend. We were kind of fighting, but eh whatever it’s cool now. On Saturday the Big Event was going down, and I had to wake up at 8. Ugh. This may not be the earliest time in the world, especially because I do have 8 ams during the week but it was a Saturday and I did have a late night. I don’t know. It just seemed like Hell already. After the bus ride we got out and had to sign our lives away just in case something happens, and then we were off. I decided that carrying buckets was going to be a good idea. Well I was wrong. The first time going through I carried 2 buckets. Mike carried 4. The leader went to the furthest place in the course. Omg these hills were insane! The stupid people that were doing the shoveling pissed me off so much. They were yelling about the fact that we were slow. I’m not going to get into the details, but lets just say I wasn’t the nicest of people during that time. This stupid ass boy tried to put more mulch in my bucket, when it was already full. I yelled at him, saying “what the hell are you doing?! It’s already full!” then he went away sneakily laughing! I said to mike really loud, “I’m about to drop-kick a mother f*****”… yea.. deffinitly not the nicest of people.. haha. I’m glad the work was all for the community :)

Relay or Babysit... i'd take curing cancer any day.

This year this was so much hype about Relay for Life that is actually going on as I type this, and I feel like I’m one of the only people who didn’t think about getting a team together and supporting this amazing cause. At Tech it’s all about helping out and community service and this is a huge deal to this university, not the biggest day for helping out the community, but comes in a second in my book. The Drill field looks amazing, everyone is so pumped and excited, and they all seem like they all are having fun. I just am really bummed I’m not out and participating.

Next year I’m definitely going to be a part of this. I’ll find a random group if I have to haha. One of my other friends really wants to do it next year too, so if no one else in our group of friends is with us, then we will go and do it by ourselves. I was talking to one of my friends today and said stuff like, “Ugh! I really wish I was doing it! It looks like so much fun!” and she just goes, “Ooh. I don’t really care. I don’t want to go walking around for a whole 12 hours. I’d get bored.” And all I could think after she said stuff like that was: Wow! Really?! You’re going to seriously tell me that this special event is pointless or boring in some way? I could not believe her attitude toward it. It’s such a great cause! Ugh she really pissed me off.

All she wanted to do was go out to a fricken party and get drunk instead of doing something like Relay For Life which really helps people that have cancer. That is more important to her. That REALLLYYYY pissed me off! I don’t even want to go out with her tonight. I’m just going to have to babysit like always (because I don’t drink) and be bored. I hate being around all drunk people. It’s not fun to me. I don’t know why I bother. IT’s so pointless.

Hey, maybe it’s just me. I’m pissed.

Creative Writing - Apollo's Story

One day the God Apollo went out for a stoll in Zeus’s magical land above this Earth. He was just walking along when all of a sudden he got drawn into by a certain mystical light. He was memerized by it as it brought strength, energy, and heat as well as the strong light. But all of a sudden he was blinded. The light was too strong for his sensitive little eyes. Even though he is a god, he does have human-like features. Being said, his eyes were not ready for the light. He couldn’t help himself though and got drawn into the light and eventually got absorbed by it. No one can see his face anymore because humans can’t look up at the sun without it making their eyes hurt or tear up.

All of Apollo’s friends and family went looking for him, for he went missing (being absorbed by the sun). His beloved Trojan princess Cassandra looked for him for hours, days, nights, even months. After about two years of looking she decided that he was long gone and nowhere to be found. This made Apollo extremely sad, for he now thought that his closest people that he loved had forgotten about him. He would sit in the middle of the sun and cry for hours upon hours. Finally he came up with a solution that would help Cassandra see him and know he is still alive. He craftily came up with many designs, but one suited his fancy really well. It was something that went over human eyes, to help them look into the sun without their eyes hurting. It had shields for both eyes, and went back behind their ears. After finishing and perfecting his design, he sent them to Cassandra with a note saying to look up at the light. It was at that moment when she realized he had been there the whole time.

This may be why he’s called the god of sunlight, but it’s also the real reason why sunglasses were made.

So… This is something I heard this girl that’s a friend of a friend say randomly tonight. It just got me thinking: wow the things some people say. Haha. So I decided to talk about Overheard at VT.

There is this facebook group called Overheard at Vt and it’s a place where anyone (mostly VT students) post things that they overheard around campus. There’s all these things about dirty things people hear and they think it’s the funniest thing ever. All the stuff is pretty funny. I’ll give you some examples:
1. In Pritchard halls:

Girl: "I'm going through such a hard time and I just found out my sister lost her virginity..."

2. In West AJ
Guy 1: The race is the best place to take a date
Guy 2 : Why?
Guy 1: You drink and you can't hear anything she says

3. Girl on phone in Johnson:
"So at the game I was at last night, there were all these people with signs saying how tech should be in the N-double C-A"

4. right before a midterm, Guy 1:"So, this test lets out at 7:30, right?" Guy 2: "Yeah, man." Guy 1: "So, that means I can be drunk by 8. That works." Guy 2: "Dude, I'm gonna be drunk by 7:45."

5. Professor: "I may be big and fat, but I am smaller than an elephant. Well, except for the one in my office."

I tried to get some different ones on there, so you can see for yourself the different kinds of funny people here. If you haven’t been to the group or joined the group on facebook you definitely need to take a look. It’s a good laugh and I whenever I’m down, it cheers me up.

So my all time favorite tv show is 24. The show is a drama based on the central plot of CTU in the United States that is dealing with a terrorist attack in one way or another. CTU is the Central Terrorist Unit, so them being the main agency involved with the show makes sense. I love the suspense, plots, ideas, different characters, and the fact that every season has been different. I’ve been watching this show since the first season (and the eighth season is playing now), so I definitely know and have my favorite characters. Kiefer Sutherland, Jack Bauer, is absolutely amazing in this show (he’s the main character). He creates the show; He is the show! I remember a few years ago he got convicted of a DUI, like his 3rd or something, so he had to go to jail, and the show couldn’t go on.

The show is so suspenseful I find myself on the edge of my seat yelling at the computer or tv (wherever I watch it) due to the events that happen. CTU tries to find the bad guys, with Jack Bauer’s help, and they never catch them until the 24th hour. Every episode is an hour, and there are 24 episodes, because there’s 24 hours in a day (duh). So the seasons are called “days” (This season is Day 8). All these things happen in one full day, and they never catch the bad guy until the day is finished. Sometimes the seasons start in the middle of the night. I feel so bad for the people in real life that has to deal with these kinds of intense situations.

Anyways, this season is the final season and I am so sad. I’m going to probably end up getting every season though so I can watch them over again, because the first one happened so long ago, I have no idea what the plot was. All I can remember is that the president gets shot in the first one (and he’s been my favorite president) and then in the second season his brother becomes president. There’s a lot of time in between the 5th and 6th section or 6th and 7th season because of Sutherland’s jail time, so the writers of the show created this plot of how Jack got stuck in China in a “concentration camp” (just like in the Holocaust except with Americans as the victims) for like 4-7 years I think. They only thought of this because the last season had Jack sailing off on a cargo ship that was going to China due to the fact that the Chinese captured him. It’s so sad when they capture him/ terrorize him. I hate the bloodiness/goriness of some torture scenes, but the show is known for it. It shows some of the stuff that actually goes on (not real footage but scenes that could possibly happen in torture).

I love the show so much, I never miss an episode. It’s hard to watch tv in college, so I usually wait to watch it online when I have time. BUT I NEVER MISS IT. I LOVE IT.
